Imagine a place where you can pause, reflect, & reconnect with your inner self.
Imagine doing this in Alaska.
Step into Alaska life while taking time to meditate, journal, recharge, eat healthfully, and sleep restfully. Wake to crisp air and the hush of spruce and eagle cries. Begin with gentle guided meditation on a sunlit deck as eagles soar overhead. Move through slow, restorative yoga that meets your body where it is, then settle into quiet journaling with a steaming mug of herbal tea and views that invite honest reflection.
Savor thoughtfully prepared, nourishing meals sourced from local catches and seasonal produce—food that comforts and fuels. Spend afternoons exploring peaceful trails, tidal coves, and whale watching, or simply sit in stillness and listen to the trees. Join optional workshops on intention-setting, mindful movement, and creative practice, or choose solitude in a cozy lodge with soft linens and blackout shades for the deepest rest.
Evenings bring communal conversation around a fire or solitary stargazing beneath an expansive northern sky. Reset your rhythms with sleep that comes easily after a day tuned to nature’s pace. Leave with clearer intentions, renewed energy, and a softer, steadier mind—carrying Alaska’s calm with you as you return to everyday life.
Welcome Retreat Leaders
Let’s Create Something Transformational
Community begins with retreat seekers, they come and join in the community that is Hoonah.
As they practice self care, they become a community within the retreat container.
As they reach out in the activities, culture, and nature they connect with Mother earth.
This connection transforms, restores and rejuvenates.
The seekers meet and interact with locals to learn Alaska ways of living.
The time in Hoonah profoundly changes each member of the group and as they return to their home life, they take a part of this connection with them.
Hoonah Matata Retreats offers a menu of included but optional activities.
Whale watching on Hoonah Matata’s private boat.
Bear viewing from a inland river.
Sound healing, sound bath with meditation.
Morning guided group meditation.
Gondola ride and shopping in the Icy Strait Cruiseport.
Outdoor salmon bake in a secluded bay on the island.
Tour of the hydroponic greenhouse.
Local Tlingit dance show and totem carving demonstration.
Cooking class preparing local caught salmon and halibut.

About us
Teresa Holland is an energy healer, facilitator of sound journeys, cacao and fire ceremonies. She spent many years as a retreat leader for an international organization. In 2025, she discovered Hoonah and opened a retreat venue to offer retreats focused on mind, body, and spirit transformation amid Alaska's natural beauty. Her practices connect participants with nature, promoting healing and rejuvenation while helping individuals discover their highest selves.
Bryan Holland spent his career in business. He founded a law practice and ran a large franchise. His expertise has helped hundreds plan their financial futures. Along the way he became a sailor. He got his captain’s license and sailed the world in a catamaran. In 2024 he sold the caramaran and bought an aluminum boat for Alaska. He captains whale watching tours and is out fishing when he can. He is also able to build or fix anything.
Teresa and Bryan have been partners in business and marriage for nearly 40 years. They raise four great kids and enjoy three fun grandkids. When they are not in Alaska they are in San Diego with family. They also love to travel and find more amazing places to see in this beautiful world.
Hoonah Matata Lodge was founded in June, 2025 by Teresa and Bryan Holland. We discovered Hoonah sailing there summer of 2024. We fell in love with the beauty and energy of the nature, the charm of the town and the warmth of the people in the community.
We decided we wanted to share it by building a retreat center where seekers and retreat leaders could come and connect to nature, rest, relax, transform and restore connection.
